Around our house, Spring means Turkey hunting! We hunt the Merriam's Turkey out here...very similar to the Eastern. They tend to be a bit smaller, and they have beautiful white bands across their tail feathers. These photos are taken 5 miles from the house.
This big guy tormented us for the better part of 4 hours! He actively gobbled back to each and every call we made, but was already keeping company with 4 big hens, and would not close the distance enough to come within range of the boys' muzzleloaders!
There is Ben with his flintlock smoothbore, and Nash with a dbl barreled percussion muzzleloading shotgun.
Maybe they will bring that gobbler home today!
